#NaijaClimateNow, a climate change creative art campaign initiative of Creative Youth Community Development Initiative (CYCDI) - #Solution17, with the support of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Nigeria, got a boost on 6 October 2021, as Sterling Bank Plc moved to strengthen the financing and sustainability of the project.
At a Press Conference held at the Sterling Bank Towers, Marina Lagos, the Chief Executive of the Bank, Mr. Abubakar Suleiman, assured that the bank was out for a long term partnership for the project as it aligned with the organisation's strategic focus on renewable energy. "Our commitment to clean and renewable energy is total." He added.
The Founder of CYCDI, Ms Foluke Michael, informed that #NaijaClimateNow campaign was about mobilising solutions towards the achievement of the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development in Nigeria. She explained that young people were at the center of the solutions.
In his remarks, National Information Officer of UNIC, Oluseyi Soremekun, noted that the global goals had entered the last ten years of the 2030 Agenda framework, and therefore, means the world is in the decade of action towards the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). "In the context of #NaijaClimateNow, we are in the 'Decade of Action' for Climate Action. We are mobilising Global Action, Local Action and People's Action towards the #RaceToZero." He added.
#NaijaClimateNow aims to work with a generation of innovators on ideas that address the climate emergency and to explore climate change through ART as a means of bringing about behavioural change.
